Bruce Tate BA (Hons), Dipl. Adl Couns. ASIIP, Registered Member MBACP (Accred)
I am an accredited member of and work to the ethical standards of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and hold a professional counselling qualification. I am a skilled and versatile therapist. My experience includes working in Primary Care (GP Surgery), Secondary Care (Mental Health Care Trust) and independent practice. Previous experience includes working as a personnel manager for over 10 years.
I also ran and tutored the counselling training programmes near Cambridge at Bottisham Village College from 2010 to 2013. I am an active member of the Cambridge Adlerian Society.
Each year I am involved in extensive professional development and this has included Pink Therapy's 'Essentials in Sexual Minority Therapy' as well as modules including brief therapy, emotions, gender issues, anger management, elements of CBT and life transitions. I have attended the International Adlerian Summer School (ICASSI) each year since 2008 and joined the teaching faculty in 2014. People attend from around 26 nations. I have recently led training sessions in the US, Athens, the Netherlands, Singapore and China and plans for include face to face and online teaching in the UK, Europe and the US.
The approach I follow is based on a humanistic model developed from the work of Alfred Adler (a contemporary and one-time colleague of Freud). It has a holistic outlook and is underpinned by a socially-centred theory of psychology. This approach includes cognitive and behavioural elements. Encouragement is at the core of my work, linked to hearing what needs to be heard and exploring personal insight and self-awareness. I am passionate about this approach. It is flexible and creative and based on encouragement. The key is for me to be able to work in a flexible way to support each individual person.
I am currently training in William Glasser's Choice Theory and Reality Therapy which complements my exising work.
Contact me by phone or email if you would like to consider counselling. Both phone and email messages are confidential.
